The trail leading into Val Codera starts in the municipality of Novate Mezzola (Sondrio), located at the northern end of Lake Como, near Lake Mezzola. It is easily reached by car from Milan via the SS36 road, or conveniently by train: travel to Colico station, then take the connecting train to Novate Mezzola, which takes about 15 minutes.

From Novate Mezzola station, the start of the trail can be reached by car or on foot in about 15 minutes. To get to the trailhead, follow the SS36 for a short distance, keeping Novate Mezzola railway station on your left. At the first junction, turn right onto Via Ligoncio, near the pharmacy, and continue uphill, ignoring the side roads.

When you reach an unpaved parking area in the locality of Castello, you will see signs for Codera on the left, marking the beginning of the trail.

According to Municipal Ordinance No. 23 of 9 July 2026, the Tracciolino Trail has been reopened from 11 July 2026 on the section between the border with the Municipality of Verceia and the locality of Cola, following the completion of works to restore safe access.

At the junction for San Giorgio, however, hikers are required to take a detour along the Revelaso trail in order to reach Cola. The route is also closed in the event of adverse weather conditions, while the section between Cola and Cii remains completely closed.
